A poultry project in Central Bougainville has received assistance from Strongim Pipol Strongim Nesen (SPSN), a development assistance programme funded through the Australian Government.
Manuvatave Womens Association in Kurai VCC of South Nasioi area in Kieta District of Central Bougainville has struggled with their poultry project since it was established in 2005.
The project chairlady, Ms Jennifer Dauka, stated that since then the women have been struggling to keep the project going until SPSN came to their assistance in partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
She thanked DFAT and SPSN for funding their project and added that the women are ready to participate in any project if government gives recognition for their struggle for economic recovery in their area.
According to the chairlady, the first lot of chickens has already sold out and the women group has placed order for new shipments.
DFAT representative in Bougainville, Mr Jeffery Kop, thanked the community for completion and launch of the project.
He added the community must maintain peace and stability and if it is to sustain itself and generate more income.
